The roads from Twin Falls to the Oregon coast were sometimes long and straight and sometimes curvy, especially closer to the coast. We encountered the inevitable construction area after making our Westward trek outside of Ontario, OR. Wait for it … 66 miles of it ! Not six and two-thirds of a mile, but 66 miles! Holy moley it was crazy, AND it was mostly loose gravel that entire leg. For those readers that might be asking out loud; yes we were only driving about 15 mph for any of the loose gravel sections.
As we emerge from the rain forest which lines the inward side of the coastline, we can finally see the Pacific Ocean The Oregon Coast has a unique beauty. Rocky shores mixed with some beaches, waves crashing into gigantic boulders and rock formations 50 to 100 yards offshore. It is a beautiful drive down the Oregon Coastal Highway aka ” the 101″. We have taken way more photos than I will post here, but hopefully you can enjoy them and get the idea of what it’s like here. We are staying in an RV resort near Newport, so we can do day trips, both North and South, to some lighthouses and quaint little towns as well as drive down to Florence for a nice dinner.
